I Survived a Satanic Panic in the 80s and Became a Goddess—What’s Your Story? ✨

When I was five, an angelic being told me I was going to have a sister. When I shared this with my ultra-religious parents, they treated me like the devil. When I got my first tarot deck, I had to get rid of it—tarot, they said, was a tool of evil. When I found inspiration in the goddess-reverent character Storm from X-Men, my comic subscription was canceled due to “satanic content.”

It seemed that no matter where I found something sacred, it was always deemed unholy. If I said I heard the voices of the wind or the trees, I was told to stop lying. Daydreaming and playing without productive outcomes were forbidden, too. I was allowed to create art and write stories, but only if they stayed realistic and within the margins of polite societal expectations. “Draw from life, not imagination,” they said. Anything beyond that, and I was accused of being enthralled by darkness—even though my connection to spirit came from nature herself. Wasn’t God in all things? Was it so wrong to hear the divine in “His” creations?

I understand how fear and control can twist love and faith into tools that restrict us. I know how the innocence of a child can be crushed by systems that seek to keep us in line. But here’s what I chose to do: I protected what I could, created rituals to sustain me, and reclaimed my ability to speak with the divine on my terms. Today, I honor my creativity every single day, finding joy in the process of creation. My connection to nature sustains me, reminding me that magick is always present when we’re open to it.

Now, it’s my greatest joy to help others reconnect with their intuition, feel the magick around them, and transform their lives through intentional play and meaningful ritual.
