Brigid's Light

Brigid's Light
Irish folklorist Kevin Danaher described the dandelion as "Brigid's flower," likely because it’s one of the first wildflowers to bloom after her festival, heralding the return of spring’s light and vitality.

Invoking the Creative Power of Imbolc

This Saturday marks Imbolc, a sacred time that falls midway between the winter solstice and the spring equinox—a moment when light begins to reclaim the darkness, and the promise of spring stirs in the air. Rooted in ancient Celtic traditions, Imbolc celebrates the goddess Brigid, who governs healing, poetry, smithcraft, childbirth, and inspiration.

Legend tells that when Brigid was born, a tower of flame rose from the top of her head, reaching toward the heavens. Her birth, which occurred at sunrise, made the family house appear to be on fire. Born in a doorway, at the threshold of dawn—between light and dark, inside and out, winter and spring—Brigid embodies the liminal space. She stands between worlds and teaches us the wisdom that can only be found in transitions and hidden potentials, waiting to be illuminated. In these thresholds, creativity stirs, on the cusp of something new and just beginning to take shape.

Brigid is also associated with water—her holy wells, scattered across Ireland, offer healing and fertility, not only to the land but to the soul as well. Imbolc invites us to reflect on where we might need healing or renewal. Are there creative passions that have long been dormant, waiting for the spark of inspiration? Are there old wounds or obstacles to clear, making room for the new? As the season shifts, so too can we—into new ways of being, creating, and living.

Brigid calls us to awaken dormant dreams, projects, and inspirations. On Imbolc, we celebrate the power of new beginnings—lighting candles to honor the returning light, setting intentions for the months ahead, and stepping into the unknown with hope and faith in the possibilities awaiting us.

“What dreams are stirring within you, eager for breath?”

Standing at the threshold is not easy. One feels both here and there. Living in a liminal space requires acceptance of what has been, what is, and what possibilities may come. The creative process demands both the heat of action and the flow of reflection. I've found it’s easier to embrace this dance of transformation when practiced together, rather than going it alone.

That is why I invite you, this Saturday, to join me in an online workshop as we step boldly into this season of renewal. Together, we will weave Brigid’s blessings into our lives with a collective reading, creative writing, and a guided meditation.

Whether you’re seeking guidance for a new project, ready to awaken your creative potential, or simply wish to align with the season’s energy, this workshop is for you. We will birth new ideas, let go of the old, and tap into the creative fire that burns within us all.

Boldly step into the threshold of transformation with us, and let’s embrace this season together.

May Brigid’s flame illuminate your path. May her healing waters renew you.

I’ll see you in class!

Magickally yours,

~The Violet Storm 💜⛈️

BRIGID RITUAL

“In order to remain flexible, or when you must choose from two or more courses of action, this ritual will allow you to be comfortable with your indecision and to seek inspiration from other sources. Let Mother Nature, the most widely known aspect of The Great Goddess, take a hand. Select two ribbons of different colors to represent your two courses of action stretching out into time and write the choices upon them. Tie them to a tree branch, symbol of the Sacred Grove of The Goddess and recite the following incantation three times as you do so:

I take these ribbons
And tie them to a tree.
Which ever way the wind blows
Reveals my path to me.

In a few days, return to the tree and check the ribbons. As you approach the ribbons, take careful note if the condition of the words written upon them has changed or if their position has changed. The ribbon whose words are clearer to you is the one containing the course of action to follow. If there is no change then postpone your decision. Stay flexible.”
